What do plants weave in anthropogenic ecological spaces?
Overshadowed by the abstract notion of ‘green’, descriptions of plants are often derived from animal biology (Hallé, 1999). Because science ‘has been slow to turn its attention to the plant world’, and because the perspective applied to plants has long been utilitarian, the specific characteristics of plants are only just beginning to be considered.

The Mortemets site: an example of ‘patches’
We are taking a step back from your current workshop site to visit the Mortemets site, and more specifically the plain formerly known as ‘L’étang puant’ (the stinking pond).
The concept of ‘patches’ to describe anthropised ecological spaces was developed by Anna Tsing in her book *Feral Atlas* (date). According to her, this critical concept enables us to describe the disparate and diffuse ways in which the infrastructure characteristic of the Anthropocene impacts and disrupts natural territories and social groups.

Proposed method
During the workshop, we will not cover the entire plain, but only a small section between the Allée des Mortemets and the bus depot. We will begin by exploring certain ‘patches’ that make up the neighbourhood through a very slow walking practice inspired by ‘Deep Listening’, a concept and practice created by the American composer Pauline Oliveiros. At the end of this walk, we will attempt to visualise this listening stroll graphically, in an effort to grasp its paradoxes and entanglements.
Then, moving from the broader context to the more specific, we will invite you to encounter a single plant. Using a method derived from the Goethean approach, we will attempt to understand how this unique living being interacts with its environment. This exercise, which engages the body and the senses, provides us with new tools to encounter a plant and grasp its vitality.

Artistic and creative focus of the workshop
Building on this experience, the aim will be to design and create woven, stretched, walk-through and suspended structures that reveal the movements and relationships perceived between the plant and the elements of its environment, the interdependencies within them, and the possible adaptations. It is through gestures and forms that you will embody all these perceived or observed dimensions: by knotting, weaving, assembling, composing and structuring.
