Anent is the name given to the songs that the Achuar, a people of the Amazon, traditionally sing to all living things, especially plants. In various cultures, particularly among peoples living in the tropical belt, it is common to address a particular plant or garden.
We are invited to symbolically bury our heads in the earth by slipping under the dome. There, in the semi-darkness conducive to listening, some of these songs dedicated to millet, yucca, and rice are played.
Evoking buildings made of raw or baked earth, the piece pays tribute to this local intelligence—which is to build with the materials available—and to ecological common sense, which is both simple and effective.
