A living, sound-filled aquatic installation that connects our microbiomes. An immersive experience born out of close collaboration with microbiologist Ludwig Jardillier and bioacoustician Hélène Courvoisier.
A small ecosystem taken from a pond in Orsay evolves in an aquarium. It contains plankton, composed of barely visible living organisms: this is the beginning of a balanced chain for plants and invertebrates that we often do not know about. They evolve before our eyes thanks to magnifying glasses, swimming, crawling, digging, and invading habitats in the form of microscopic organisms built especially for them. We listen to their movements through a hydrophone, and we can also listen live to the sounds produced by our digestive system. Human sounds and the sounds of aquatic life mix together, broadcast through speakers.
We are part of nature, and we are also a living environment in our own right.
Symbionts live together, they are partners throughout their existence. Symbiotes symphonie is a device where different living beings coexist and listen to each other as they interact. It is a vibrant environment for imagining commonalities, the resonance between our bodies and the environments we inhabit. This installation invites us to be silent and observe, to immerse ourselves in these rhythms and find a mutual adjustment.
